My first post! tongue.gif
PicoDrive is Sega Genesis/Mega Drive/Sega CD/Mega CD emulator for various ARM handhelds, now including Gizmondo! It can play the vast majority games made for mentioned systems. The port is based on 1.34 GP2X version.
My goal was to make it run Genesis/MD games real-fullspeed (60fps) with 22kHz sound, and I think I achieved that (although not for all games). I was also trying to work around the slow video memory access and eliminate tearing, but unfortunately failed at that, although there are some options like double buffering/vsync to play with. The video memory bottleneck is a real killer of this system (talking about 2D stuff here).
The good thing is that Giz doesn't have any problems reading the SD card (like the GP2X has), what allows it to run SegaCD FMV games better then GP2X. In general performance of other things is comparable to GP2X running single core (in terms of running PicoDrive), slower memory is compensated by faster CPU.
Sega/Mega CD doesn't have too many games, but there are some fun ones, I personally enjoyed Snatcher, Sonic CD and Silpheed, hope you all will find some too. I won't post the usage instructions here (they are quite lengthy you know), read the included readme.
Have fun!
Edit: forgot to thank people who made this release possible:
jens.l for sending me a Giz, KingCDR for the SDK and Reesy for the wrapper DLL and sound code.
