NEO Summer Coding Contest 2008 starts today

Neoflash have started their Summer coding contest for the DS and PSP platform. The categories are split into four; DS games and applications and PSP games and applications, emphasis is on entries making use of their respective motion controllers which are available to buy now. The prizes for each of the four categories are:
1st place : US$300 cash , OR choose anyone item from the final NEO product prize list.
2nd place : US$200 cash , OR choose anyone item from the final NEO product prize list.
3rd place: US$100 cash , OR choose anyone item from the final NEO product prize list.
4th to 10th : can choose anyone item from the final NEO product prize list.Quite an impressive prize list! And if you cant code then no worry, as there will be additional prizes for people that review the entries. The GBAX 2008 coding compo should be starting in a few months time (september/october) as Craig and myself briefly talked about it a couple of weeks ago and arranged a rough date.

One of the things I have been thinking about for this year is to change the prizes slightly so that less popular categories such as applications and demos get a fair chance of winning against a game or emulator. I have not spoke to craig about this yet, he supplies the prizes so its ultimately up to him.

What I am thinking is in addition to the top 3 prizes is to have one or more prizes for best application and demo if say games and emulators take the main top 3 prizes (which is likely). This way it seems fairer to me as we get a couple of apps and demos each year but it is very hard to judge against games and emulators, and I think this reflects in how many apps and demo entries we receive. Hopefully guaranteeing a prize for these categories will entice more entries.

Like I said I haven't spoke to Craig about this yet but I would like to hear any suggestions or feedback on how we can help improve the compo so if the original poster doesn't mind you can reply back here or PM me and I will start a new topic.


The list is not definite yet but will mostly likely be GP32, GP2X, GBA, DS, PSP and Pandora. Possible platforms are iPhone and JXD series, depending if the judges have access to an iPhone (for me its unlikely) and if JXD gets working homebrew .

We can only judge the actual entry on the above platforms, so if you did submit say a game for Pandora and PC we can only judge based on the Pandora version as the PC wouldnt be a valid platform.

If we do start in September I would expect the compo to last at least 2 months so to give time for everyone to work on their entries (especially with the Pandora being new) so you would be looking towards November or December for the deadline.

Pues eso, que la GBAX 2008 posiblemente empiece en septiembre u octubre y tendra 2 meses de duración al menos. Y que las posibles plataformas para las que se podrá programar seran GP32, GP2X, GBA, DS, PSP y Pandora, y puede que iPhone y JXD.

A quick update to say there will be a GBAX 2008. It will be a bit later than usual due to Craig being busy with getting the Pandora ready and released. This will also mean the Pandora will be amongst the list of devices you can enter on. We should have more information in a few months once the Pandora is released and things have settled down, we don't want a repeat of last years delays in getting the entries judged!

gracias a efegea y a kennyspirit ! ...,la verdad creo que la gbax en epocas anteriores era por estas fechas , aunque igual estaba confundido (o no)y simplemente han decidido retrasarla para finales de otoño como es el caso ...Desde luego ,mejor para los que piensan presentar algo a ella ,ya que disponen de más tiempo para enviar algo con lo que participar ...

la última dieron los premios el 3 de agosto así que no estás confundido xD lo que me parece que seguro que le darán premios a cualquier cosa que salga para la pandora antes que a algo mejor de otra plataforma, es decir, que dificilmente podrán ser imparciales después de todo el curre por acabar la pandora... ojalá me trague estas palabras xD

Pandora, o como ***** la scene desde dentro. Lo que os puedo asegurar es que si esos individuos son el jurado de la GBAX, veo pocas posibilidades de que la GP2X saque algún premio
