Do the board terms say anything about writing in foreign languages? Maybe admins should tell us about it if there's any problem.

Tetsu no confundas términos.

I think it's a good idea, but today my main problem is the part written and heard, which is the most difficult to practice, else, which I write in English translator google!

So you were flamed for doing something similar, think it was unfair, yet do it to others? That's OK for sixth-graders but not among adults.

That's a quote from the game Zero Wing in the megadrive/genesis version. The game designers, Toaplan, seemed not to know enough english and texts in the demo were horrible:

Narrator: In A.D. 2101, war was beginning.

Captain: What happen ?
Mechanic: Somebody set up us the bomb.

(spoken in the Flash animation as Someone set up us the bomb)

Operator: We get signal.
Captain: What !
Operator: Main screen turn on.
Captain: It's you !!
CATS: How are you gentlemen !!
CATS: All your base are belong to us.
CATS: You are on the way to destruction.
Captain: What you say !!
CATS: You have no chance to survive make your time.
CATS: Ha Ha Ha Ha ....

(spoken in the Flash animation as Ha Ha Ha)

Operator: Captain !! *
Captain: Take off every 'ZIG' !!
Captain: You know what you doing.
Captain: Move 'ZIG'.
Captain: For great justice.

As you see, this looks much more engrish than english, so this is done for the lulz xD

Lom this thread may help some of you guys, as I'm used to read/write (speak) english everyday I can see plenty of wrong words and sentences. Don't take me wrong , this is a perfect idea to practice English. But there is a problem, I'm sure some of you, hamigos, have spotted some mistakes. When you spot these problems you should talk about them or you are going to begin to learn English very badly.

Anyway, my english is far to be perfect and I will write a lot of wrong things.

Cheers,

J

I already knew this came from Zero Wing :). What I don't know is why AYBABTU is so funny for native English speakers . I know it's in Engrish but ... I don't think it's funny enought. My favourite Engrish is this cloth store name:

Hey, great idea.
We can use this thread to practice our english, I'm not so used to write in this language, but that did not prevented me from hanging around in efnet channels back in the time I was writting gnuboy2x, and since that, my english has become a bit more fluent (written, at least), so I can say that these type of things helps a lot.

However, if we talk between us, there is a chance of making things worse, we should try to write correctly, beacuse some people will read our posts and think that we are doing it correctly when that's not necessarily the case.

Anyway, I don't even know if I'm doing it how it should be, english is not my native language, you know...

DEN, ur English is very good, man. Have u studied it more than usually? I mean more than the school level?

Nope but i like so much the language, i'm alwais trying to improve it playing games on english, talking with real english people on chats or online games... perhaps its strange to understand for "normal people" but the games are really a good way to learn a non-native language, specially Massive Multiplayer Online Role-Playing Games (MMORPG).

Anyway my English is not that good ^^U

K-teto
15/10/2007, 03:54
That's the way I've learnt almost all I know so far.
Playing games with english people or in english language, irc channels and such, but again, there is a risk of not learning proper english, because in these places, people tends to talk whatever they want, and they don't mind if it's correctly written or not.
There is a simmilarity with spanish people writting like they do with a mobile phone or in a wrong way (many times, on purpose), if an english guy try to learn from them, he will do in an incorrect manner, using what he learns from these people.

Oh, on a side note, I've seen the word learnt and learned, the first is commonly used by english people and the second is used by american people, did anyone else notice this?

< - >

DEN, ur English is very good, man. Have u studied it more than usually? I mean more than the school level?

You can see here a good example of what I'm saying.
Using words like "u" for "you" or "ur" for "your" is not the best way to practice a proper english, and definitely not the best way to practice it in front of people that uses this thread to improve their english.

I usually download films in dual or dvdRIP so that i can watch them in Original Version. It's also recomended to put english subtitles (not just spoken English) so that you can learn written and spoken English.

That's a good idea, but I prefer instant translation than the fact of learning written english and grammar, At the moment I want to improve and make better my speach. Grammar is always first as you know and recommend, but I'm interested in increasing my vocabulary and talk fluently. I think that my main idea exposed here is not as preposterous as I thought in other chances.

Oh my god! What has happened to GP32Spain???? xD I feel a little off by reading posts here written in english but indeed, this is a very good idea. The only way to master a language is to use it and sadly we don't really use it... only read.

Writing is much more difficult than reading. In reading we try to understand the ideas already written. When one writes, he/she tries to put his own ideas on paper with the language being learned... in due time, you'll find that you're actually thinking in english!

Sorry about the rant... but just short sentences will not help anyone ;)

What a coincidence! Maybe one hour ago I downloaded all your ai files from your website (you can check the log, lol). I only had SNKMachines pack and wanted the others to try making a desktop wallpaper :). Truly nice artwork, it's a shame your website is nearly dead :/

Maybe you are the first native reading this eclectic post :quepalmo:

I don't know the reason but all of these remaind me a great spanish band. One part of the lyrics was:

My tailor is rich and my mother is in the kitchennnn...

How knows the name of the group?¿?

Oh, so with quitzzz you were meaning quiz, concurso. I thought you were really asking for the song name :)

Well, of course I know Los Toreros Muertos, I even was in one of their concerts. It was in my town and I remember it because they had to run from the fans after it. They ran from the stage to the town hall, which of course had to be closed at the time, but someone opened it for them. I didn't know why there were so many people there, I was only trying to get home, I was late, and started pushing people trying to get through and suddenly, the entire group passed by my side!

I think that's the first time I saw someone famous. I make no big deal of famous people, but I did't expect that and it was a shock XDDD

A lepero travels to London, goes into a pub and says to the bartender:
-Quillo! dame una borsa de papa frita!
The bartender asks politely:
- I don't understand
And the lepero says:
-PUES LAS BUSQUE!

Carmatrix I'm interested to adquire a DS, what do you think about it?

Thanks for give me conversation :D

It is a great console :) the DS have a very big catalogue, the 70% are shits... BUT the other 30% of games are awesome , with a big quality in all of his aspects. An exemple of this is the mario Kart, the most interesting game of the DS sells, a very funny game with an on-line great gaming (excepting the fucking chetos :() and another pearls like metroid, a very good shooter. Square enix have the best rpg for the DS too (FF3 of course) and other third-partyes (except EA) Have great games too.

The most recomended:

Mario kart DS, Metroid prime: Hunters, Final fantasy 3, Osu takatae ouendan, castlevanias, Viewtiful joe, jump! superstars, a lot of manganime games,...

This is only my opinion. Remember: My english is veeery veery poor... [apacigueitor]

have anybody ever been abroad?
Well, I've practically spent the last two years of my life living abroad... And still doing so.

Man, today just killed me. Need to study a little more and, to make it all worse, I just got a reply from Nintendo America, about an enquiry I made for an university project, and their response has nothing to do with what I asked. Anyway, I think there's a little probability that due to their confusion I may get a Gamecube development kit... I'll let you know if something finally happens.
