Russian photographer identifies strangers with facial recognition app

Yegor Tsvetkov’s project using photos of strangers on St Petersburg metro shows how easy it is to track people

A Russian photographer has proved how easy it is to track down people on social media using facial recognition software.
Yegor Tsvetkov took photos of strangers on St Petersburg’s metro and used a facial recognition app which trawls through profiles on VKontakte, Russia’s biggest social network, to track down their online profiles.


Named “Your Face is Big Data”, the series of photographs shows how powerful facial recognition software has become, to the point that a complete stranger can find you at the click of a button.

En su proyecto, un fotógrafo ruso hace fotos en el metro y, mediante una app de reconocimiento facial llamada Findface, localiza a los usuarios en VK, el Facebook ruso!!!

Con una puñetera foto ya puede encontrar el perfil online de un alto porcentaje (no es infalible... aún) de la gente!!!

Da miedito la cosa!!!

Bad lighting or bad angle of photo does not make any obstacle for algorithm. The service defines a person on the photo precisely about 70% and thus if a certain face has not be found FindFace offers to look at the photo of similar faces. The basis for the service is the Face Recognition Technology created by N-Tech.Lab, specializing in solutions related to the field of neuron networks. These networks are able to analyze information. Según ésto la aplicación ofrece como un 70% de acierto. WTF???
